My wife and I purchased this fan after doing a lot of research. We are regular Amazon customers and have a Prime membership so we elected to purchase it from Amazon rather than from a company that specializes in ceiling fans.

When the fan showed up, it was missing the fan blades and one of the shades was cracked. It took me an hour on the phone with Amazon to explain that the fan blades were supposed to be included and get them to agree to take this very expensive fan back and send us another one.

The second fan showed up and included 'Mahagony' blades. The picture for this fan shows light colored maple blades and the Amazon description at the time we placed the ordered indicated 'medium maple' blades. After the previous experience with trying to get Amazon to deal with these issues I thought I would place a call directly to Casablanca to see if there was anything they could do for us.

While you are holding for a representative at Casablanca they repeatedly play an audio recording telling you that they really care about their customers and customer service is a priority. When I finally got a rep on the line and explained the situation she put me on hold for a few minutes and then came back to tell me that there was nothing they could do for me, I had to deal with Amazon.Would they offer to just exchange the blades brand new in the box, or sell me some in the right color? She continued insisting I needed to deal with Amazon.

All I can tell you is that it is clear from the shipping label on the box that this item comes directly from Casablanca fan company even if it is sold by proxy through Amazon. When a customer has repeated problems with your product maybe you should be more worried about taking care of them than where your product was originally purchased.

Now, here is where it gets interesting.Against my better judgement I went ahead and installed this fan.The installation is not terribly complicated but it is time consuming what with having to screw in each blade after the fan motor has been attached.Another thing to be aware of is that the manual for the fan insists that a large lag bolt must be installed between the fan hanger bracket and the fan mounting box and ultimately into the stud behind the mounting box.I'm talking about a 1" diameter screw that is about six inches long. They even leave the bracket screw slots slightly opened which only further freaks you out that this thing is going to fall if you don't put this massive and difficult to install bolt in.The weird thing about this is that this fan, while heavy, is not notably heavier than other premium fans, that don't require this kind of installation.Maybe at some point these guys got sued when a fan fell on someones head and this is their get out of jail free card if it happens again (see, judge, they didn't install the GIANT LAG BOLT!).

After I finished installing the fan (which took over 2 hrs)I turned it on with the wall control (that you must use) and it seemed to be working, but I noticed that it was scraping between the bottom part of the fan and the upper part of the motor.Looking at it, it appeared that there was more gapping between the two parts of the motor in some spots than in others.I had to wiggle it around and try to almost bend it out to get it so it would turn without scraping. Also, right from the get go we noticed that this fan was wobbling more than the $80 budget fan it had replaced. This was pretty unbelievable considering the price tag.

The next thing that happened is that we noticed that when pushing the buttons on the wall control there was a loud buzz noise coming from the fan. This happened any time the fan motor was engaged, but not if only the lights were on.I rechecked the wiring and I noticed that the fan rod was so hot I could barely touch it.I reached down and the motor was red hot! This wasn't due to the lights in the fan, the motor was obviously over heating and I suspected it had a short in it which probably explained the buzzing noise too). It's worth noting that this fan requires a huge wall control (there is no wireless available either) that is a real PITA to fit into your outlet box if you have a fan pre-wire with multiple conductors going up to the fan outlet. After all of these issues I then spent another hour removing the fan and packing it back up.I'm glad I caught the problems with this fan early as it could have started a fire or damaged our home.

While it's understandable that any product can have lemons or defective units, I was totally unimpressed with the Casablanca service and did not elect to call them or Amazon about getting yet another replacement or servicing done on this product. My wife observed it just wasn't worth it, especially for the super expensive pricing.

I sent the fan back to Amazon for a refund.I have since replaced it with a simple Minka fan that is 1/2 the price and the Minka, which was a snap to install is working perfectly.
