I don't know why someone complained about the remote, in our kitchen it works from anywhere in the room.The unit uses the remote to operate the fan and the light... the wall switch will turn both off.A holder for the remote is made to mount over it's wall switch plate.
The fan comes with a halogen light bulb that seems ridiculously low in wattage but the light switch is actually a dimmer control and it can be brightened up to 100W.It took me a couple of days to figure this out.
